Seeing is believing, but what if you can see things no one else can?
Sixteen year old MacKenzie Bryan has your typical problems. You know, parents, boys, angels with special deliveries, homework, demons delivering cryptic messages, and…hold on, wait. Doesn’t every teenager have to balance doing their homework while fighting the rising dark forces in a new town while still making it home before curfew? If the demons don’t kill her, her father will.
You probably think this is just another book about some teenager, but what if it’s not? What if there are things that you don’t see? What if you are supposed to be more?
What if you are … CALLED?
“The story swept me away. It deals with the supernatural well without a bunch of blood and gore.”
“Spiritual warfare on a superhero level!”
“I was impressed and intrigued with the point of view and style of writing. Refreshing and real.”
CIR: What inspired this book?
McCAY: I kept seeing things like Harry Potter, Daniel X, and Percy Jackson and while I love all three series, I kept thinking, wouldn’t it be cool to have a series that presented God as powerful and alive.
CIR: What would you compare this book to?
McCAY: I’ve been told it has a This Present Darkness feel only it’s young adult.
CIR: What message do you hope your readers will get out of this book?
McCAY: I hope readers will walk away knowing that church is more than a building. It’s the people and relationships we build that make us church. I also hope they walk away knowing that our pastors are people and they need kindness and compassion too.
CIR: Is there more coming?
McCAY: Yes, there are two more coming. Called Healer and Called Prophet. I’m hoping Called Healer is out no later than next June.
