Book 1: Too Cute to Kill
Jake and Emma Rand discovered each other after they both left painful first marriages. Their idyllic life together in the shadow of Casper Mountain is shattered when they stumble across the frozen body of a woman after an early blizzard. When the police investigation stalls, Jake and Emma set out to unravel the puzzle of who she is and how she met her lonely fate. What they uncover will rock this small western town to its core.
“I loved it! Gripping and thought provoking without gratuitous gore. And she made things so real I felt cold when they were in the snow, I could feel the dog licking my hand.”
“The perfect book to curl up with for an afternoon escape.”
“If you like cats and dogs and charming domesticity with your murder and mayhem, this will be right up your alley.”
Book 2: Main Street Murder
A spring blizzard traps the citizens of Casper, Wyoming in their homes, closing roads and shutting down highways out of town. When murder strikes in spite of the snow, suspicion immediately turns to the victim’s neighbors – including Emma’s receptionist, Kristy Castle. As Emma fights to prove Kristy’s innocence, a terrible secret begins to emerge that could threaten all their lives.
“Linda Crowder has hit it out of the park again! Engaging, edge of your seat, real Agatha Christie style.”
“I was totally immersed in the story and really loved the new characters and the regulars.”
“I’m hooked on this series of mysteries set in Wyoming instead of a big city — for a change. This writer leads me into thinking I know who done it over and over again and then springs a surprise that I didn’t see coming. Refreshing.”
Book 3: Justice for Katie
In 1985, budding author Jeb Cannon discovers the decomposed body of a young woman while riding fence with his father on their wind-swept Wyoming ranch. The case quickly goes cold but her memory haunts his imagination.
Thirty years and a number of best-selling thrillers later, Cannon asks Detective Matt Joyner to help him finally find justice for the woman, whom he has dubbed “Katie.”
Joyner has his hands full investigating the modern-day murder of an Assistant County Attorney so Jake and Emma Rand step in to take a fresh look at the decades-old case. When they uncover a link between Katie’s death and the murder of the Casper ACA, they may finally unmask the mysterious “Boss” that has been orchestrating a campaign of murder and deception.
“I got so wrapped up in it that I forgot to eat.”
“I really like these characters. They are very genuine and jump off the page.”
“I could not put this book down for anything. Every single time I would say this is the last chapter, something else would drag me right back in and kept me up until the book was complete.”
Book 4: Death Changes Everything
The chill in the air isn’t the only change October is bringing to Casper, Wyoming. Jake Rand, local attorney specializing in juvenile cases, is being courted to run for county attorney and a killer is stalking one of the city’s leading families. With Casper’s only homicide detective out of commission, Jake and his wife Emma, a therapist in private practice, step in to crack the case. Will the accidental detectives be able to keep the killer from striking again?
“Friendship, a couple that is truly in love, drama, and plenty of action action fill the pages. The author continues to improve with each story and this is the best one yet!”
“This book kept me up until two a.m. WHAT AN AWESOME NOVEL.”
“You won’t need a bookmark for this one. Once you pick it up and begin, you will want to read straight through to the solution.”
Book 5: Body on the Ballot
Jealousy, hatred and domestic terrorism — how can one little primary in one little town pack such a big punch? By the time election day comes, there may be more than one body on this ballot.
Jake Rand is running for County Attorney in Casper, Wyoming, but someone seems determined to keep him out of office. There’s only a week before voters head to the polls, and it’s shaping up to be a very bad one. Protesters, punches, stabbings and shootings – politics isn’t just personal in Casper, it’s downright deadly!
It isn’t long before the police make an arrest, but Jake isn’t sure they’ve got the right man. He wants to win the election, but sending an innocent man to prison isn’t part of his campaign plan.
“From the title I expected one of the candidates to die prior to the election. It was touch and go for all involved. A little dirty politics, anarchy, and interesting characters make for an intriguing read. Clever mystery with several surprises.”
CIR: What inspired this series?
CROWDER: I love to read and I’ve always loved cozy mysteries best. My favorite authors are Agatha Christie, Rita Mae Brown and Lilian Jackson Braun – all who write books that focus on the puzzle to be solved and the relationships of the people involved. When I began writing, I chose to base Jake and Emma in my adopted home town of Casper, Wyoming. I wanted to show people the beauty of the country’s least populated state as I have discovered it since coming here in 2006. As I was writing Too Cute to Kill, my friends at the Fort Caspar Museum thought it would be fun to feature the Fort in my book. With their encouragement, a pivotal scene was set during the Fort’s annual Candlelight Christmas celebration. With Main Street Murder, I continued to weave the spirit of Casper into the events in the book.
CIR: What message do you hope your readers will get out of this series?
CROWDER: There are the very basic themes of love, trust and friendship running through all of my books. My characters have an optimism in their approach to life – even when confronted with fear and danger – that comes from a foundation of faith that appears subtly in their everyday approach to life.
CIR: What are the main characters like?
CROWDER: Jake Rand is an attorney who specializes in juvenile cases. He acts as a defense attorney for juveniles charged with a crime and as guardian ad litem for minors whose parents are involved in child abuse or neglect cases. He is both rugged and caring, at home in court or at the end of a fishing pole in an ice cold river. Emma Rand is a therapist in private practice whose curiosity and natural instinct to help and protect get her into some tight spaces. No damsel in distress, Emma is a crack shot when she has to be. She is a California transplant with a soft spot for rescue animals.
CIR: Should the books be read in order?
CROWDER: Each book is written to stand alone, so the reader can enter the series at any point. There is a progression in the lives of the major and minor characters, so from that perspective a reader might want to back track and pick up the books in order but it will not detract from your enjoyment of later books to not have read the earlier books.
CIR: Is there more coming?
CROWDER: Absolutely! I have the next three major events in the lives of my characters mapped out so I’m anticipating there will be many more books in the years to come.
