In Chase Tinker’s world, magic, lies and secrets can be a lethal combination…
13-year-old Chase Tinker and his younger brother Andy learn the truth about their family’s magical heritage from a grandfather they thought to be long dead. This grandfather soon invites them to come visit him in his gigantic, magical house on a remote island in Puget Sound – a house where practically every room has its own unique superpower. When there, the boys also learn that their family has been battling a Dark Enemy for generations, always fighting to preserve the mysterious “Relic” that holds the key to all the Tinker magic. This terrifying enemy is bound and determined to get their hands on this powerful Relic, and the incredibly magical house. Chase can’t believe his dad has been keeping so much from him and his brother.
Now Chase must find a way to stop these evil beings, while at the same time seeking the truth about what has happened to his missing dad, unraveling even more secrets and lies, and not letting on that he has his own secret crush on the housekeeper’s beautiful daughter.
“It’s funny, witty, exciting, bone-chilling, romantic, adventurous, and MAGICAL!”
“This book is a wonderful ride through a beautifully crafted world full of magic! This story is filled with fun, family, adventure, and excitement. I especially liked the fantastic house full of magical rooms. Extremely well written, with vivid description, excellent flow, and an unanticipated twist in the end.”
After spending the summer at his grandfather’s gigantic, incredibly magical house, Chase Tinker thought things couldn’t get any more bizarre, or that the secrets and lies couldn’t get any worse, but he was wrong.
As summer turns into autumn, the magical craziness includes the sneezing of strange powers, the reappearance of the evil Marlowe family, another frightening kidnapping, the discovery of a mysterious, magical girl, a dangerous rescue mission, and a secret so mind-boggling that it will lead to a shocking climatic finish that will turn Chase’s world completely upside down and leave him feeling like one of the worst people on the planet.
“This sequel, to the excellent Chase Tinker and the House of Magic, has not just continued the story, it has also increased my interest, introduced new characters, given plot and character twists that would make a mystery crime writer envious AND made me frantic for the next book.”
“WOW WOW WOW! I was very impressed by the first book and this second book is just as impressive.”
For eight agonizing months Chase Tinker’s guilt over the despicable act he committed on Halloween night has been eating away at his heart and mind. His life gets even more complicated when secrets about the ancient Relic in the attic are revealed, right before an unwelcome caller arrives on the day of Chase’s fourteenth birthday.
Despite these problems, his biggest concern is that his family’s Dark Enemy, the Marlowe Family, is becoming more powerful with each passing day, fueled by the magic they continue to pillage from the many magical beings in the world. If Chase and his family are ever going to win, they’ll need a whole lot of magical help. They must destroy the most evil threat the world has ever known.
“Another wildly exciting installment in a magical, whimsical adventure for middle-grade readers.”
“Such fun characters. Magical rooms. Fairies. Leprechauns. Vampires. Other Magical Creatures. What is there not to like?”
Everything is on the line for Chase Tinker: his family, his friends, his house, his magic…his life. Will destiny be on his side at last? Will the Marlowes finally be defeated—and at what cost?
The Final Showdown.
“The best parts of HOUSE OF MIST (and all of the CHASE TINKER books, actually) are the characters. Chase is a true hero, a committed and driven boy determined to avenge the evil done to his family and the world by the insidious Marlowes. But more than that, he’s a real person, a teenager burdened with insecurities, guilt, and anger.”
“There is a lot that goes on in the story, bringing loose ends together in a satisfying manner. I really enjoyed the book!”
Author note: I know this might sound cliché, but my idea for this series came from a dream I had one night. I dreamed I was living in a house where every room had a magical power. My daughters thought it sounded like a great idea for some kids’ books. And so the plotting began.
In the series I address several things:
- Never give up on what you believe in
- Family love and loyalty
- Believe in yourself
- The consequences of keeping certain secrets
- Look before you leap
